Democracy and the Middle East

A major rallying cry for the war in Iraq was to help bring 'democracy' to the middle east. In hindsight it seems that although we eliminated a dictatorship, in many ways the war has succeeded in bringing more elements of totalitarianism to the people of the United States rather than instill any elements of democracy in Iraq.

Perhaps the real emerging voice of democracy in the middle east is through Aljazeera, which seems to be giving a limited voice to Arab communities that previously had none.
